It took 6 hours starting from my town, Tinigban ( Municipality of Aroroy, Province of Masbate) to Carles, Iloilo. We used boat all the way to Carles with over 30 passengers with my mother to visit my aunt, uncle and cousins of couse. The boat’s time departure was exactly 6 o’clock in the morning and arrived 12 noon at the said destination. In the middle of the journey, I started to feel uncomportable and somehow afraid because in the middle of the sea the waves are getting bigger and bigger. Another reason is that, it is my first time again to experience a wavy long distance travel using boat.

Aside from visiting our relatives in Carles, we used to be there because we wanted to see the popular spot visited by the peaple in our place and peaple in its nearby places. This spot is what the call Agtalin Shrine, a gigantic statue of Virgin Mary on the mountain. It is located in the Municipality of Pilar, Province of Capiz, the said statue was considered as the tallest Virgin Mary image in the country with 80 feet of height. It is believed that it has an ability to heal even encurable diseases by praying faithfully at the shrine.

Tinigban is a barangay in Aroroy as its Municipality and Masbate as its province. Fishing and farming are the primary source of occupation of the residents. Tinigban beach is a pride of Tinigbanians because of its powdered-like white sand, crystal clear water and a beautiful, mesmerizing sunset. In the meantime, nearby barangays including Mataba, Tinigban and Calanay was the reason why the name Matincal formed. Matincal was derived from the 3 coastal barangays and it has a 10 km long and 80 meters wide covering the 3 barangays.

                      BY AIR + LAND
1. Starting from Manila to Masbate City, Airlines offered flight via Philippine Airlines (PAL) and Cebu Pacific. It has a travel time of about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

2. From Masbate City, take a ride via bus or van to Aroroy (a municipality of Tinigban). Travel time is approximately 3-4 hours.

*Bus: Php 60.00 – Php 70.00
*Van: Php 80.00
3. From Aroroy port, you can ride via bus (Emanuel, etc) or via boat ( Fatima, etc) to the final destination, Tinigban. It has a travel time of 4-5 hours.
FARE:
*Bus and boat: Php 100.00
Please be advised that:
*There is only one public bus and boat that offered trip from Aroroy to Tinigban.
*Vehicles time of departure from the port of Aroroy to Tinigban is 10 am.
*The trip to Tinigban from Aroroy or vice versa may be cancelled due to weather condition.

            BY BUS + BOAT VIA PILAR
1. From Pasay, Cubao or Alabang ride a bus (Philtranco, CUL, Peñafrancia, Bicol Isarog, Raymond, etc.) to Pilar Port in Pilar, Sorsogon. Travel time is approximately 10-12 hours.
FARE:
*Ordinary bus: Php 600.00 – Php 700.00
*Air-conditioned bus: Php 750.00 – Php 1000.00
2. In Pilar port, ride a ferry/boat from Pilar Port to Aroroy Port directly. It has atravel time of 3-5 hours.
FARE:
*Boat from Pilar to Aroroy: Php 200.00 – Php 300.00
OTHER OPTION:
From Pilar Port, you can take ride via boat/ship to Masbate City then ride out again a bus or van from Masbate to Aroroy. 4-5 hours from Pilar to Masbate and then 3-4 hours from Masbate to Aroroy.

*Boat from Pilar to Masbate: Php 300.00 – Php 400.00
*Bus/ boat from Masbate to Aroroy: Php 60.00 – Php 80.00

I was born in Tinigban, Aroroy, Masbate and its always been a pleasure to come back of where I started everyting. Tinigban is the land of my birth that deserve to be visited by foreign peoples or even the local citizen who choose to leave the said community. The following statements are my reason why I keep on going back.

1. MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

We all have our own childhood memories whether good or bad that we really missed and possible to turn back time and refresh all those good moments of life. And even bad memories played significant relationship in eveyday living. Because of those bad things we’ve done before is what make us now a better version of ourselves.

But what childhood memories I definitely want to reminisce again and again?

We are 8 siblings and we have approximately 1.5 hectars of farm. In order to not to hired other workers, we including my parents did all respinsibilities in the farm. My father and 2 older brother do the plowing and the rest including me is becompelled in planting rice. Therefore, at the age of 8, I already knew on how to plant and harvest rice. Indeed, Planting rice with my family was such a memorable experience.

2. MY CHILDHOOD FRIENDS

Friends is one of the most sognificant persons in our life. They are the especial someone in which we can share comfortably our problems and life’s uncertainties. Also they are the people next to our family because we often spend our time with them. In addition, they also the one who really know and understand our personality that for better or for worst true friends are always there to laugh and help us because TRUE FRIENDS STAY TILL THE END.

3. THE ENVIRONMENT

Surrounding is the major reason why I keep on coming back to my hometown. Masbate is a small island as you can see in the map. Since it is just a small island, it is surrounded by the water with beautiful beaches. In that point, my barangay is one of so many places in Masbate with beautiful beach location. It has a white dust-like sand and a crystal clear water. At the same time, my barangay is not polluted because the number of vehicles are so countable. Moreover, this place is a perfect location for vacation especially when you are with your friends and family. Nowadays, this spot is gradually disvover by some tourists and it has now a cottages for those who want to enjoy the beauty of gift.

4. FIESTA CELEBRATION

Fiesta is an ocassion celebtated in barangay or barrio every year. Since I was child I witness on how people prepare for the three days celebration. They prepare a lot of food for the visitors that was came from different places. Second, I witness on how citizen help each other to install the colorful flags and streamers along the roads. Third, I witness how tiangge transfer from other place to our our place. Fourth, I witness everyone’s parade around the barangay with different form of street dance followed by bands exhibitions. Most importantly, I witness everybody’s genuine smile because of the ones in a year celebration. Being happy is the reason why we celebrate the said ocassion.

5. THE PEOPLE
People itself is one of my reason why I choose of going back to my place. My elementary teachers, my high school teachers, my relatives (cousins, auntie and uncle), my godparents etc. The are the significant people that played an important role in my childhood life. They served as a role model as I grew up, also they shaped my personalities to be a better version of myself. We all need each other to live that is why no man is an island.

Language is the country’s soul and identity to isolate with other countries in terms of cultures, beliefs, and religions. Furthermore, as time goes by, new words are being discovered and there are words being died.

In my fourteen years of living in Tinigban  as the land of my birth, I didn’t have a chance to visit Gato Island which is nearby our barangay and just about  30 minutes of travel using bangka. Before, I really wanted to go in the said Island because lots of my friends said that the scenery in Gato is really wonderful and relaxing. Last May I had my vacation in my hometown and that was just the time that I was able to go in Gato Island. In this small island you will see the beauty of green environment, a crystal clear water, the rock formations and lastly, what I really liked was the underwater view wherein you’ll see the different color, shape and size of corals, different kinds of underwater organisms like sea urchins and diffirent color of small fishes etc. That was my colorful and memorable vacation journey last May, 2018. Gato Island is just one of the beautiful places you can explore in my hometown.
